Cikarang, May 23, 2025 – In an effort to raise public awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and emergency preparedness, the event titled “Energetic Smile, Joyful Exercise: Happy Seniors, Healthy Lives” and Basic Life Support Training was successfully held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Puskesmas Lemah Abang, Cikarang.
This initiative was divided into two main activities: a health education and group exercise session for the elderly, and a life-saving training program for employees. Both activities served as a tangible form of interprofessional community service in the health sector, aiming to build a healthier, more responsive, and resilient society.
The event began with an energetic group exercise session for senior participants, filled with smiles and laughter—creating a cheerful and uplifting atmosphere. This activity was designed not only to improve physical fitness but also to foster social interaction that positively supports the mental well-being of the elderly.
The session was followed by a health education talk focusing on healthy eating tips and tricks for people with diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension, presented by:
Victor Larry Eduard Tumalun, MD, M.Gizi, Sp.GK
(Clinical Nutrition Specialist)
In his talk, Dr. Victor emphasized that individuals with diabetes and hypertension can still enjoy delicious meals without compromising their health. He shared practical tips, such as choosing complex carbohydrates, reducing salt intake, using natural sweeteners, and reading nutrition labels carefully.
“Healthy food doesn't have to be bland. What matters is how we manage our eating patterns and choose the right ingredients. Eating healthy can still be tasty,” said Dr. Victor, warmly received by the enthusiastic participants.
The next session was a Basic Life Support (BLS) training, aimed at Puskesmas employees and the surrounding community. This training equipped participants with essential knowledge and skills to save lives in medical emergencies, such as sudden cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.
The training was coordinated by:
Dr. Muhammad Faizi, Sp.An
(Anesthesiology Specialist)
Participants learned critical techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), recognizing emergency conditions, and the initial steps in handling victims before advanced medical help arrives. The session was hands-on and interactive, ensuring every participant had the confidence to act in real-life situations.
The event was a great success, filled with enthusiasm and community spirit. The senior participants went home with new knowledge about healthy eating, and the trainees felt more empowered and capable of responding to emergency situations.
As a token of appreciation and to boost excitement, the organizing committee also distributed attractive door prizes at the end of the event. The gifts were warmly received and added a joyful touch to the overall experience.
Through this initiative, Puskesmas Lemah Abang and health professionals demonstrated that collaborative education and training are essential to building a healthy, responsive, and resilient community.
