The Faculty of Medicine at President University Holds an Early Exposure Health Screening Event: "Check Your (Precious) Heart

On September 12, 2024, the Faculty of Medicine at President University held a health screening event titled “Check Your Precious Heart.” This event was designed to raise awareness in the community about heart health through various medical screenings and educational sessions. The program included an electrocardiogram (ECG) test, blood pressure and pulse checks, as well as education on heart health and healthy eating habits. Dr. Andrew Suprayogi, Sp.PD, an internal medicine specialist, was also present to share his insights and valuable knowledge on maintaining heart health.

Health Screenings Offered

  1. Electrocardiogram (ECG) Screening
The ECG screening was conducted to record the heart's electrical activity and detect any irregular heart rhythms or early signs of heart disease. During this event, participants were able to learn if there were any indications of heart issues that might require further medical attention. An ECG screening is particularly recommended for individuals with high-risk factors, such as high blood pressure, obesity, or a family history of heart disease.

  2. Blood Pressure and Pulse Checks
Blood pressure and pulse rate are key indicators of heart health. Through these checks, participants were able to understand their blood pressure status, whether it was within a normal range or indicative of hypertension. Additionally, the pulse check monitored participants' heart rhythm, which can reveal important aspects of cardiovascular health.

  3. Heart Health Education by Dr. Andrew Suprayogi, Sp.PD
One of the highlights of the event was the heart health education session led by Dr. Andrew Suprayogi, Sp.PD. He provided an overview of the importance of heart health and effective steps to prevent heart disease. In his session, Dr. Andrew explained how to manage risk factors such as high blood pressure, stress, and lack of physical activity, which can all impact heart health.

  4. Healthy Diet Education for Heart Health
Beyond medical examinations, the event also offered guidance on a heart-friendly diet. Dr. Andrew educated participants on a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low in saturated fats. This healthy eating plan aims to maintain stable cholesterol and blood pressure levels, thereby reducing heart disease risk. Participants also received practical tips on choosing healthy ingredients and balancing portion sizes for optimal heart health.
